3D Ready

3D Ready

The HDMI implementation on this receiver supports both 3D video and an Audio Return Channel, along with numerous high-resolution formats. 3D video brings exciting possibilities to home entertainment, with movie, game, and broadcast content on the increase and 3D-compatible TVs now on the market. Meanwhile, the Audio Return Channel allows audio content received directly by your HDTV’s tuner to be sent “upstream” via HDMI to your A/V receiver, without the need for a separate S/PDIF audio cable.

4K Upscaling

4K Upscaling

Selected receivers offer 4K (3840 x 2160 OR 4096 x 2160) upscaling of standard video sources such as 480i/p, 720p, and 1080i/p. Interlaced-to-progressive conversion and scaling are performed by Qdeo video processing technology from Marvell. Qdeo uses algorithms to erase video noise and artifacts such as jaggies and feathering. Played back on a compatible wide-screen display, your content will look more detailed and cinematic than ever. Note: 4K video playback requires a 4K-compatible TV. HDMI pass-through of 4K content from source devices is not supported. 4K upscaling of analog video is only available at 480i.

CinemaFILTER

The tonal balance of a film soundtrack can be edgy and bright when played back over audio equipment in your home—this is because film soundtracks are designed to be played back in large theaters, using commercial equipment. Onkyo has developed its own solution that restores the correct tonal balance of a movie soundtrack in the smaller environs of your home theater.

Sound designers and artists are free to mix in a 3D space, steering effects through surround channels and adding a seamless overhead dimension with discrete height channels. In commercial theaters, it supports up to 128 audio tracks and 64 unique speaker feeds. The home theater adaptation automatically scales to your surround configuration.

DTS-HD Master Audio

DTS-HD Master Audio

HDCP 2.2 support- ready for next-generation of Ultra HD streaming and broadcasting.

HDMI

HDMI

HDMI (High-Definition Multimedia Interface) This high-bandwidth interface supports not only brilliant digital video, but digital audio as well. Up to 5 Gbps of data—more than twice what’s needed for a high-definition movie with surround sound—can be handled, with room for future requirements. All this data is kept in the digital domain, as there are no D/A or A/D conversions needed, to ensure the highest sound and video quality available.

Hybrid Standby

Hybrid Standby

Selected A/V receivers feature ‘Hybrid Standby’ mode to save energy and provide greater levels of convenience. Hybrid Standby Mode provides ‘HDMI through’ functionality and maintains a local network connection while the receiver is essentially powered down. This allows the user to watch TV without turning the whole surround system on. Furthermore, when on Hybrid Standby, the home theater may be powered up from “cold” using the Remote Apps for iPod touch/iPhone and Android.

InstaPrevue

InstaPrevue

Selected A/V receivers feature licensed InstaPrevue visual input management technology by Silicon Image. InstaPrevue technology displays a series of thumbnail videos on screen representing the available content on devices connected via HDMI. The feature is accessed via the Home Menu screen. InstaPrevue technology makes switching HDMI inputs and choosing content much easier.

isf Video Calibration

isf Video Calibration

Utilizing industry-leading ISF (Imaging Science Foundation) video calibration allows you to dramatically improve your home theater by enabling sharper-focused, fuller resolution images and a more accurate color balance. ISF Calibration turns your A/V receiver into a true video hub, this function ensures that every video source is independently calibrated for your connected high-definition display. ISF video calibration has also been shown to improve energy savings in displays and projectors by up to 50%.

MHL

MHL

MHL (Mobile High Definition Link) is an interface protocol allowing the connection of compatible portable electronic devices such as smart phones to A/V receivers. The protocol transports uncompressed 1080p video stored on smart phone for display on HDTV, with up to 7.1-channels of surround sound. On selected A/V receivers, smart phones can be connected via a designated front-panel MHL/HDMI port. While officially ‘connection agnostic’, MHL cables commonly feature an HDMI plug and Micro USB connector. Once linked to a compatible receiver, the user can control their smart phone using the system remote. Smart phones are recharged upon connection, and no separate power supply for the device is necessary while connected to the receiver.

Phase Matching Bass Boost

Phase Matching Bass Boost

The negative effects of phase-shift—or the timing difference between sound waves of different frequencies—can sometimes be heard in audio players when corners are cut in order to increase bass response. While most audio systems have some form of low-frequency enhancement system, often a bigger bass sound comes at the expense of mid-range clarity, and results in a smeared or muddy sound. Our Phase-Matching Bass Boost technology avoids this problem by improving the phase timing to preserve the natural clarity of the mid-range—allowing vocals and strings to shine—while maintaining a smooth, powerful bass response at all volume levels.

Powered Zone 2

Powered Zone 2

Selected A/V receivers feature Powered Zone 2. Two additional surround channels may be assigned to send an amplified audio signal via a set of cables to stereo speakers in another room. An audio source from the receiver may be played back in either or both zones, or two different audio sources played in either room simultaneously.

QDEO Technology

Wi-Fi Certified (a/b/g/n)

Wi-Fi Certified (a/b/g/n)

To achieve Wi-Fi certification, products are tested according to the industry’s 802.11 standards for interoperability, security, reliability, and ease of installation. Products with the Wi-Fi Certified logo have been tested in a variety of configurations and with a diverse range of other devices to ensure compatibility with equipment operating in the same frequency band.

WRAT

WRAT

WRAT is based around a low negative-feedback circuit topology that works to reduce signal noise and distortion across the frequency range. A “closed ground-loop circuit” design is employed, in which each circuit has a separate link to the power supply. This helps to cancel individual circuit noise and keep the ground potential free of distortion. High Instantaneous Current Capability (HICC) enables WRAT amplifiers to immediately cancel the speakers’ reflex energy and instantaneously send out the next signal. The same high current better manages speaker impedance fluctuations, which can negatively affect performance.
